We are a social club that preserves and teaches a unique style of dance called D.C. Hand Dance (DCHD) that originated in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area in the mid-1950's. This smooth style of swing evolved from Jitterbug and was known in its early years as "fast dance." D.C. Hand Dance is noted for its complex hand turns done in circular and slotted patterns to the beat of slow to moderate tempo music.
We dance at various places during the week and one Saturday of each month. Come take our free lessons, provided by certified Hand Dance Instructors. See details about our weekly and monthly dances - Weekly and Monthly Dances.

Training Course for Certification for DC Hand Dance Instructors.
To ensure that the Club maintains a sufficient number of certified hand dance instructors, our Lead Instructor, Louise Pyles will again offer the training course to certify DC Hand Dance instructors. Individuals who meet the qualifications below and are interested to participate in teaching the DC style of hand dance at Club venues should contact Louise Pyles. Qualifications would be:
1. Knowledge of basic through intermediate skills with the DC Hand Dance. Individual should have at least 2 years of experience and proficiency with the dance.
2. Willingness to teach the basic steps in accordance with the standardized training method as previously developed by Louise Pyles and Betty Bunch Garcia. Instructors must agree to use the standardized method of instruction defined in the Teacher Training Guide so that students receive consistent and uniform presentation of the style by each of the Club’s instructors.
3. Willingness to learn and be able to teach both the lead (male) and follow (female) parts of the dance. 4. Possession of the audio equipment (PA speaker and microphone system) along with appropriate music needed to conduct group lessons. The individuals would need to pay Louise Pyles for the classes. The cost will depend on how many people are training at one time, and the length of time needed for proficiency to obtain certification. If you are interested, please call Louise Pyles at 301-579-9486 or email at louisepyles@hotmail.com
